How To Link Aadhaar and PAN Online?
According to a notification from the Income Tax Department, the income tax returns will not be processed until the individual’s PAN and Aadhaar are linked. The linking can be done at the department’s official e-filing website.
With a 2-step process, the department has made the process of linking PAN and Aadhaar easy for the taxpayers. The individual need not log in or register at the e-filing website for the process. And it is accessible to all the citizens.
The Process Includes:
Step 1: Get to www.incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in and click on “link Aadhar”
Step 2: Enter your PAN, Aadhaar number, name as per Aadhaar, and submit.
Note: Avoid spell errors.
The government website for Aadhaar, UIDAI, will verify and confirm the linking.
What If There Is A Minor Mismatch In The Individual’s Name In Both The Databases?
In the case of the minor mismatch in the name, enter the Adhaar OTP. However, the date of birth and the gender in both PAN and Aadhaar needs to be same.
In the rare case of major mismatch in the name in both the database, the individual will be asked to get the name change done.
How To Link Aadhaar And PAN Through SMS?
Through an SMS-based facility, the citizens can link their PAN and Aadhar. Send an SMS either to 56161 or 567678 from your registered mobile number in the below format.
UIDPAN<SPACE><12 digit Aadhaar><Space><10 digit PAN>
Eg: UIDPAN 232323232323 AKPLM3332M
What If You Fail to Link?
If you miss linking Aadhaar with PAN,
- Firstly, you cannot file for Income Tax Return (ITR)
- Your PAN card might be rendered invalid by December 2017.
What If You Don’t have an Aadhaar Card?
If you do not have an Aadhaar card, apply for it and provide the application number as a proof that you have applied for one.
According to the Aadhaar Act 2016, every resident is entitled to get Aadhaar number by undergoing the enrollment process that requires the submission of biometric and demographic information.
