Of late, at ArthaYantra, we have seen a large number of women signing up for our financial services and that’s pretty fantastic! Women have always been great at managing money better than their male counterparts and trust us, by the end of this article, you too would agree with the same.
Women do not borrow money the way men do
Women shouldn’t regret for not being able to borrow money the way men can casually borrow money from friends, families and even their partners. If a couple has to start a new family and they are getting ready to build their home, a woman is likely to wait than the man who is ready to go overboard on his credit irrespective of the financial consequences. Whereas, if it is the woman who has taken up the responsibility to do the interiors of her home, she plans her budget, adheres to a timeline and over a period of time acquires her requirements with zero financial consequences.
Women cannot spend as much as men can
You may be thinking it is not true. Women, in fact spend a lot. Well, the flip is, women do and can spend as much as men but they know where to spend. Women refrain from indulging in bad buys which ensures they only invest in purchases that are necessary for living (that includes entertainment as well). As women know what to spend for, their spending is limited when compared to their male counterparts who are not as specific and not as budgeted. For example, if a woman has INR 50,000 to spend, she can fully exhaust that money but her purchases will have relevance to her daily life, unlike a man, who’ll certainly stress on his requirements, but once the basic is met, he is prone to irrelevant indulgences.
Women have this habit of stretching the limits
Behaviorally, women are way tolerant when compared to men. By virtue of this, women are more flexible to financial changes and manage a lot more within their limited budget. Many of us are well acquainted with the fact that how our grannies and nannies and mothers would always say yes to every requirement even when they weren’t earning and their only source of savings would be some changes they would find when they’ll take their husbands’ and sons’ clothes for wash. In modern days too, a woman professional is likely to have some savings even by the end of the month while her male counterpart will have to borrow from his colleague or just stay quiet for fear of being involved in anything that requires him to contribute financially. Our working mothers will always be yes to their kids asking for pocket money even when the salary is due by a few days, but fathers will sweat it big time.
Women have the habit of bargaining at all times
This is one thing that men hate about women, “bargaining”! “Isn’t it easy that you just figure a good place to buy things from, list your purchases, and just go buy? It saves time!” Well, if total 15 minutes of bargaining can save INR 1500, isn’t it awesome? It is almost an amount a typical professional would earn after 8 hours of labour. And wait, do you know how much more do you end up paying when you shop at a mall that does not entertain bargaining? You may think that you are paying the same price as in the retail market, but hey, imagine the service tax, the service interest, the VAT (value added tax), the Cess tax etc. In the local market, you do not pay all these and in fact you pay much lesser through good bargaining skills up your woman’s sleeve.
Women can make do with window shopping
Yes. This is so true. I too agree. Women are really good at window shopping. Window shopping is recreational. It builds immunity against OCS (obsessive compulsive shopping). Well, this may sound funny, but OCS is an unidentified disease that today’s professionals are very prone to. From budgetary point of view, window shopping helps one identify and prioritize things between wants and needs. This way, you see, aren’t women who window shop are really pocket-friendly people? See next time, if your girlfriend, your mom or wife wants to go out for window shopping, you must know that they are being kind with you!
Now that you are convinced about these skills, won’t you trust your woman to manage your money? They are too cool, isn’t it?
